What is Level X?
This fall we are adding something new to the Zero 2 Gaelic (Z2G) program - Level X! What is it and why should I be excited about it?
- Level X is a class in which the presenter designs a program of individual and group activities. These activities will help students to develop confidence in their Gaelic communication skills.
- Level X is about having fun with the Gaelic you have now through activities and by playing games in a supportive environment. You've learned some concepts in other classes, now put them into use.
- Level X is about having an opportunity to use the Gaelic you have now. Most opportunities to use Gaelic outside of Scotland and Nova Scotia are solitary. Even courses such as Zero to Gaelic assume self-study between Gaelic Intensive Days. Here you can interact with other students and put into practice what you have learned.
- Level X is open to persons who learned Gaelic through other programs or courses. You don't have to have obtained your Gaelic in the Zero to Gaelic program to attend Level X.
- Level X is for persons who have been away from Gaelic for a while. Rediscover the fun of Gaelic through games and activities.
- Level X is not Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 and is not a replacement for what you would learn in those classes.
- Level X does not assume that you know everything about Gaelic or are fluent in the language.
- Level X is not part of a series. You can come for one or all! If you miss one you are not behind for future classes.
- Level X is not about sitting for a lecture. While you'll probably learn new words and concepts though the games and activities, we will not be having a lecture on any specific topic. If you know the conditional, great. Otherwise, use what you have.
- Level X is not for persons with no Gaelic whatsoever. You must have some Gaelic in order to participate in games and activities that use the language.
What can I expect in a Level X class day?
While each class will be different, a typical class might include:
- Introductions, verbal and written warm-up activities. Students are likely to be grouped by skill level so activities can be tailored appropriately.
- Story time, listening comprehension and speaking activities.
- Written exercises which prepare students for verbal activities.
- Responding to commands.
- Puzzles and Games.
- Laughing and fun.
Using what you've learned is important no matter what your skill level. Use it or loose it! So don't be afraid! Come have fun with us.
